This pop-up meeting place and cultural hub provokes passerby’s and visitors to dwell on the consequences of climate change and make them tangible through theatre plays, workshops and lectures.

About NOA

NOA stands for "Nomadic Overnight Aquatecture" and was designed by Studio Kortmann. The water pavilion is a flexible structure that could be placed in any plot imaginable and can be assembled and disassembled quickly. NOA is made of a steel scaffolding construction with a skin of white gauze. The walls catch moisture from the air, which is then collected in the water basin. The white gauze cloths together form a 'pixel cloud' or a large layer of floating clouds made up of blocks. The big eye-catcher is the 6-metre-high waterfall, which makes visitors realise how high the sea level actually is at that location.

The impact of Climate Change

The Prins Alexander area lies 6 metres below sea level, making it the lowest built polder in Europe. Climate change and a rising sea level have the potential to have a major impact on this area. Will it still be possible to live in this area in 2100?

For many residents, the water management of this polder is invisible. At the same time, without their involvement, keeping their feet dry is becoming increasingly challenging. Residents themselves can do much to make their neighbourhood more sustainable and resilient. With the NOA pavilion and all activities Powerboat draws attention to this issue. The pavilion and the activities actively involve the residents in their neighbourhood. This has been the main objective of Powerboat since 2015, which strengthens social cohesion and increases livability.
